译文
远处山上的小亭依稀可见，近处水上的楼台尽入眼底。一个人躺在帷帐之中，无人相伴。双眉上还是旧愁，心中又添了新愁。
转身起来，坐在窗前，眼前不时有流萤飞过。抬着望着天空一轮明月，想必是明月也怜惜我的忧愁，不忍变圆满。
注释
菩萨蛮：原唐教坊曲，后用为词牌，也用作曲牌。亦作“菩萨鬘”，又名“子夜歌”“重叠金”等。双调四十四字，属小令，以五七言组成。下片后二句与上片后二句字数格式相同。上下片各四句，用韵两句一换，凡四易韵，平仄递转，以繁音促节表现深沉而起伏的情感。
榭（xiè）：建于高台或水面（或临水）之木屋。
凤帏（wéi）：闺中的帷帐。
蛾：眉毛。螺子黛乃女子涂眉之颜料，其色青黑，或以代眉毛。眉细如蛾须，乃谓蛾眉。更有以眉代指美人者。
颦（pín）：作动词为皱眉，作形容词为忧愁。
绣户：解释华丽的居室，多指女子的住所。
疏萤：指萤火点点，忽明忽暗。

朱淑真的爱情生活极为不幸，作为一位女词人，她多情而敏感，因此于中秋节前后几天写下了这首词，具体创作年份未详。

春秋多佳日，而“山亭水榭”的风光当分外迷人，但词人却以极冷漠的笔调作出此词，因为“良辰美景奈何天”，消除不了“凤帏”中之“寂寞”——独处无郎，便没有什么赏心乐事可言。“凤帏”句使人联想到李商隐《无题》诗中的名句：“重帏深下莫愁堂，卧后清宵细细长”。有意味的是，词人使“愁闷”与“颦眉”分属于“新”“旧”二字。“旧”字以见女主人公愁情之久长“新”字则表现其愁情之与日俱增。一愁未去，一愁又生，这是“新”；而所有的愁都与相思有关，这又是“旧”。“新”“旧”二字相映成趣，更觉情深。
辗转反侧，失眠多时，于是乃有“起来”而“临绣户”似乎是在期待心上人的到来。然而户外所见，只不过“时有疏萤度”而已，其人望来终不来。此时，女主人公空虚寂寞的情怀，是难以排遣的。在这关键处，词人又却又写出了一丝安慰，也算是自慰吧！词人给她一点安慰，一轮缺月，高挂中天，并赋予它人情味，说它因怜悯闺中人的孤栖，不忍独圆。“多谢”二字，痴极妙极。同是写孤独情怀，苏东坡在圆月上做文章：“不应有恨，何事长向别时圆”；朱淑真则在缺月上做文章“多谢月相怜，今宵不忍圆。”移情于物，怨谢由我，真有异曲同工同妙。此词最有兴味之所在正是结尾两句。

朱淑真（约1135~约1180），号幽栖居士，宋代女诗人，亦为唐宋以来留存作品最丰盛的女作家之一。南宋初年时在世，祖籍歙州（治今安徽歙县），《四库全书》中定其为“浙中海宁人”，一说浙江钱塘（今浙江杭州）人。生于仕宦之家。夫为文法小吏，因志趣不合，夫妻不睦，终致其抑郁早逝。又传淑真过世后，父母将其生前文稿付之一炬。其余生平不可考，素无定论。现存《断肠诗集》、《断肠词》传世，为劫后余篇。
