舜庙怀古创作背景
刘熊渠系长沙王后裔，此诗是其任舂陵侯时，游九疑舜庙所作。汉元帝初元四年（前45），刘仁率舂陵刘氏宗族，从今永州宁远向北迁徙到南阳白水乡（今湖北枣阳县）。

刘熊渠，是汉朝宗室，汉景帝的儿子长沙定王刘发的孙子。父亲是舂陵节侯刘买，他承袭舂陵侯的爵位。他死后，谥号戴，舂陵侯的爵位由长子刘仁继承。他的庶子苍梧太守刘利是更始帝刘玄的祖父。他的弟弟郁林太守刘外是汉光武帝刘秀的曾祖父。
