译文
雄伟高大的泰山，以极其清秀的灵气直冲青天。
它的山岩洞穴仿佛天然间隔的空虚宅院，寂寞无声，幽静深邃。
它绝非人间工匠的制造，而是大自然造物所开发的高楼大厦。
变幻莫测的风云气象究竟是什么东西，竟然这样使我的思想波动不定。
决定离开变化多端的人境，搬到泰山中生活，恬然无为，延年益寿，安享天命。
注释
①泰山：古称岱山，又名岱宗，在今山东省境内，与西岳华山、南岳衡山、北岳恒山、中岳嵩山遥相对峙，故称“东岳”，为“五岳之首”。其山势雄伟壮丽，山顶可见四大自然奇观——黄河金带、云海玉盘、晚霞夕照和旭日东升。吟：一种诗体名。
②峨峨：嵯峨，山势高峻的样子。东岳：指泰山。
③岩：山崖。间（jiàn）：分隔。虚宇：指天地万物。虚，天空。宇，空间的总称。《淮南子·齐俗训》：“四方上下谓之宇”。
④寂寞：清静，无声。幽：僻静，幽雅。玄：奥妙，玄妙。
⑤云构：高大的建筑。发：出自。
⑥器象：物象。《易·系辞》：“在天成象，在地成形，变化见矣”。
⑦屡迁：指思想波动不定。《易·系辞》：“为道也屡迁”、“唯变所适”。
⑧逝：通“誓”。宅斯宇：以斯宇为宅，指隐居泰山。
⑨天年：指人的自然年寿。《史记·范睢蔡泽列传》：“终其天年，而不夭伤。”

泰山吟创作背景
晋安帝隆安三年（公元399年），乱臣孙恩攻破会稽，杀王凝之及其诸子，作者寡居。而当时又是东晋晚期，政治矛盾尖锐，王室与士族、士族与士族之间相互攻伐，坐着面对这样的政治环境，遂产生隐居的想法，于是便这下《泰山吟》，表现了作者归隐山林，颐养天年的思想。

泰山吟鉴赏
“峨峨东岳高”一句，开门见山，吟咏泰山巍峨高大，“秀极冲青天”，既勾画出直刺云霄、高耸陡峭的山势，又把静止的山峰写得生气蓬勃，富含动态之美。
与前两句从大处着眼不同，下面四句则着眼于细部描绘。山石峥嵘竟然分割了天空，显得格外静穆幽远。此山此石仪态万方，看上去好像是能工巧匠精心雕琢而成，其实却是大自然鬼斧神工的杰作。
诗中出现的“秀”、“幽”、“玄”、“自然”等词，与魏晋时期的思想崇尚及人物品评理论有关，在这里用来形容泰山，折射出鲜明的魏晋时代色彩，也恰如其分地表现出诗人对泰山的赞叹与景仰。但诗人在感叹泰山神秀的同时，又不由自主地联想到个人身世的坎坷与艰辛。诗人质问造化：你既令泰山如此迷人，却为何又使我遭受命运的坎坷，屡遭颠沛流离之苦。
诗人的确与普通女子有很大不同，她在提出质问之后，并没有进一步作悲痛哀婉的泣诉，而是笔锋一转，在诗中融进自己刚强不屈的精神。面对高耸入云的泰山，面对神秘莫测的造物主，诗人没有因为自身遭遇而悲伤沮丧，而是决心投身于山川这雄奇壮伟的怀抱，以顺应自然，终亨天年。
该诗虽有哀痛激愤之语，但对泰山之美的描写却并不是为了衬托这些情绪，而是为了表现出诗人对大自然真挚而热烈的爱，这种爱与诗人坚强不屈的性格相交融，使诗人在面对泰山时淡定而又坚强，这是一种非凡的气度，是一种“万物皆备于我”的崇高精神状态，也是诗人在遭遇困境时更加主动地融入自然，感受自然魅力的原因。

谢道韫（生卒年不详），字令姜，东晋时女诗人，是宰相谢安的侄女，安西将军谢奕的女儿，也是著名书法家王羲之次子王凝之的妻子。她与汉代的班昭、蔡琰等人成为中国古代才女的代表人。在卢循孙恩之乱时，丈夫王凝之为会稽内史，但守备不力，逃出被抓后杀害。谢道韫听闻敌至，举措自若，拿刀出门杀敌数人才被抓。孙恩因感其节义，故赦免道韫及其族人。王凝之死后，谢道韫在会稽独居，终生未改嫁。
