译文
梅花要迎接春天的来临，所以它早先开放。尽管冬天的天气是多么寒冷，但它还是傲然独立，毫不畏惧。
它只是怕开花落在群芳之后，到那时，人们游春的意兴索然，再也没有人特别注意地观赏它了。
注释
发：开花。
疑：畏惧，害怕。
别意：格外注意，特别注意。
早梅鉴赏
在咏梅诗中仅以早梅为题的就为数不少。这类诗的一个共同特点是突出一个“早”字。这首《早梅》诗，用极富表现心理状态的手法，写出了梅花的坚强性格。
诗题是《早梅》，却并没有具体描写早梅的形象、姿韵，而是在议论早梅“早发”的原因。“迎春故早发，独自不疑寒”。为了迎接美好的春天的来临，梅花不畏严寒，不惧风霜而早于众花开放。“迎春”二字，回答了“早发”的原因。“不疑寒”，化入了梅花不怕严寒的坚强性格。这些均从诗人口中说出，倍感亲切。同时，在诗人观赏早梅生发出来的感叹中，隐隐寄寓着诗人的情怀。
“畏落众花后，无人别意看”。承上联，继续抒写早梅的原因。唯怕百花开在先头，自己落了后，没有人再来观赏，所以，争先恐后，早早放出了芳香。“畏”字引出的意义深远。原来，梅花独自早早开放，是有着一种追求的，不能落在“众花后”，而要开在“百花前”。诗人用拟人化的手法，赋予了梅花人的个性，用“疑”“畏”等极富于表现心理状态的字眼，生动描写了梅花不怕严寒的坚强性格和不甘落后的进取精神。而且，巧妙地寄寓了诗人自己怀才不遇、孤芳自赏的情怀。
诗里没有直接出现梅的画面，也没有任何对梅的形象描绘，但读后，早梅的形象却鲜明可触。这是因为诗人的议论，紧紧扣住了一个“早”字，突出了早梅的性格。
