寿州人，字子进。吕希绩弟。登进士第。为太常博士。哲宗元祐中，历官太常丞、权太常少卿。宣仁太后死，谏哲宗勿复新法。寻除中书舍人、同修国史。绍圣初出知亳州，为谏官劾元祐中附会吕大防、苏辙，徙睦州、归州。后贬金州居住，又责道州安置。徽宗即位，起知瀛州，改颍州。崇宁初，入元祐党籍。卒年六十。
