李回，字昭度，宗室郇王祎之后。父如仙。回本名躔，以避武宗庙讳。长庆初，进士擢第，又登贤良方正制科。释褐滑台从事，扬州掌书记，得监察御史。入为京兆府户曹，转司录参军。合朝为正补阙、起居郎，尤为宰相李德裕所知。回强干有吏才，遇事通敏，官曹无不理。授职方员外郎，判户部案，历吏部员外郎，判南曹。以刑部员外郎知台杂，赐绯。开成初，以库部郎中知制诰，拜中书舍人，赐金紫服。武宗即位，拜工部侍郎，转户部侍郎，判本司事。三年，兼御史中丞。
