（ 320—385）东晋陈郡阳夏人，字安石。少有重名。善行书。初无处世意，累辟不就。与王羲之、许询、支遁等放情丘壑。年四十余始出仕。为桓温司马。晋孝武时，进中书监，录尚书事。时前秦强盛，晋军屡败。太元八年，前秦大军南下，次淝水，江东震动，安任征讨大都督，使弟谢石与侄谢玄加强防御，指挥作战，终获大胜。封建昌县公。继又使石等北征，收复洛阳及青、兖等州，进都督扬、江、荆等十五州军事。时会稽王司马道子专权，受排挤，出镇广陵。旋疾卒。谥文靖。
