现代著名作家许地山的父亲许南英，是台湾近代著名的爱国诗人。他是台湾安平人，号蕴白，别号“窥园主人”和“留发头陀”。台湾安平，也就是今天的台南市。许南英作为台湾历史上第二十五位进士，他的一生浓缩了中国近代知识分子的种种际遇。他遭遇国土沦丧之痛，切身体会清朝官场的腐朽，也亲身经历了辛亥革命的不彻底。 他的命运与时代紧紧相连，手中的笔也时时捕捉时代的脉搏。他留下的诗集《窥园留草》记录了时代的方方面面。
