难兄难弟的成语故事

难兄难弟的典故

颍川有个叫陈宴的人，自幼好学，办事公道。后来做了县官，更是廉洁奉公，百姓很佩服他。他的大儿子叫元方，小儿子叫季方，也有很高的德行。

元方后来被朝廷任命为侍中，又想让他当司徒官，但是他不干，朝廷又封他为尚书令。因为陈宴、元方、季方的声望极高，当时豫州的城墙上，都画着他们父子三个的图像，让百姓学他们的品德。

元方有个儿子叫长文，季方有个儿子叫孝先。有一天，他们为自己父亲的功德争论起来，都说自己的父亲功德高，争来争去没有结果，便一同来请祖父陈宴裁决。陈宴想了一会儿，对两个孙子说：“元方难为兄，季方难为弟。他俩的功德都很高，难以分出上下啊！”两个孙子满意而去了。
