西晋大官僚石苞的儿子石崇没有得到父母的一点遗产，靠自己的功劳晋升为荆州刺史，他不择手段大量搜刮民脂民膏，很快成为西晋头号富翁。晋武帝的亲舅王恺也是一个大富翁，但和石崇比起来真是小巫见大巫，他自己也承认甘拜下风 。
