春秋时期，卫国的公子州吁杀兄卫桓公篡位，他拉拢宋、陈、蔡等国一起攻打郑国。鲁隐公问大夫众仲如何看待此事，众仲说如此残忍的人会众叛亲离的，用兵就像用火一样，不知收敛就会烧死自己的。果然不久卫国人借助陈国杀死州吁。
