得陇望蜀的典故

东汉初年，隗嚣(ao)割据陇地，公孙述割据蜀地，自立为王，二人相互勾结，对抗朝廷。建武八年，光武帝刘秀与大将岑彭率军攻破天水（今属甘肃省），岑彭又与偏将吴汉把隗嚣包围在西城。公孙述派兵来援救隗嚣，驻扎在上邦(gui)，光武又派盖延、耿弁包围之，自己回兵东归。回到京都，刘秀给岑彭去信说：两城若下，便可带兵向南击破蜀虏。人若不知足，即平陇，复望蜀。意思是平定陇后不应满足，紧接南下平定蜀。后来既平陇，复望蜀就演变为成语得陇望蜀，意思也变成形容得寸进尺，贪心不足了。既是褒义词，又是贬义词。
