比肩接踵的典故

楚灵王知道晏婴长得矮小，就和大臣们定计，想戏辱他。

晏婴到了楚国郢都，可是城门紧闭。一个楚国的卫兵把晏婴领到一扇新开的小门前，请他从小门进城。晏婴冷笑一声，说：“这是狗洞，出使狗国从这儿进；我出使楚国，怎能从这里进！”楚灵王反被晏子戏辱，只得大开城门，迎晏婴进城。

楚灵王还想戏弄晏婴，在接见时，第一句话就问：“难道齐国没有人了吗？”晏婴大声回答：“我国京城行人比肩接踵，怎么说没有人？”楚灵王笑着说：“既然有人，为什么叫你这个矮子出使我国呢？”晏婴叹口气说：“我国那些体面能干的使臣，到有贤君的国家去了。”晏婴加重语气说：“像我这样无用的人，只好来见你了。”

“比肩接踵”成语由此而来。肩并肩，脚尖靠着脚跟，形容人多拥挤。
